The Derik-house.

The Derik-house built in 1840 in the typical "Jær-house"-style from that century. This house used to be the home of two families. "Jær" or Jæren is an area near Stavanger in the southwest of Norway. The little room in each end of the house was storageroom for peat which was used instead of wood to heat the house. This is the southern end of the house.

What a lovely place, I may have a different view of this style of architecture as many people appreciate grander styles and overlook this functional style :-)

@roaringtree Grand castles and other fine buildings can be nice to photograph but simple buildings like this is what so called ordinary people lived in, so it has an importent place in history as well. Living on the coast I've also photographed many boathouses and small homes that belonged to ordinary people.

@sierravictor I have to agree, the story of ordinary people is the true history of every country. The humble homes have very special beauty!
