    We had rules like this in our trams. My grandfather got in a verbal fight with the conductor who tried to enoforce it on a school boy. My granddad said "Let the boy sit, can't you see he's too small to reach the hand grips? I'm happy to stand, I'm tall enough" (Our trams at that time grips hanging from a rail on the ceiling.)
