In the Royal Forest
Havering-atte-Bower was a Royal Manor from the time of William the Conqueror. A Palace was built here in the 12th century and remained until the 17th century. Every British Monarch from Henry III to Charles I stayed here at some point. Nothing remains of the Palace but parts of the estate and the forest live on. There are several of these lost estates close to London.
