The Petzval 58 is relatively new to me, but the more I use it the more I love it. I love that there is an element of unpredictability to its results. Sometimes the swirl is almost overwhelming - reminding me of looking through old-fashioned 70's glass door panes - and sometimes it's a more subtle effect. I've shot 35mm film for years and have only been using digital for a few months. Using film, I can frame and meter a shot as best I can and still not be completely certain how the picture will look. For me, using the Petzval 58 on my EOS 6D gives me something more like the feeling of using film - it's the best of both worlds!
