Originally, this was called as the 'Largo de Infante Dom Afonso' (the old Secretariet Square) and was essentially pedestrian in nature, which was ideal to soak it the atmosphere of the architecture around.
Today is a busy vehicular intersection, but is valued for the buildings that shape it, especially the secretariet on the right
which was the palace of the adil shah, the muslim ruler prior to the portuguese arrival and then it was turned into the residence for portuguese governor and finally functioned as the goa assembly after liberation till recently. It is now being renovated for culture exhibitions.
