Praktica, first model, 1952

I recently got this Practica, first model, though slightly advanced variation - particularly with flash contacts (this unusual three rivet-like things). It was in pretty good condition (and rare mirror camera which I can use easily without glasses) but lacked lens. With some efforts I found also this authentic Carl Zeiss Tessar f:3.5 lens, but haven't developed any pictures taken with it yet. Shot from 45cm distance with "macro" mode (turning lens two extra turns on my Smena of 1955).

Lovely camera! I have a Practica Super TL which I have used extensively.... not as nice as this one!

I also have a Praktica FX. It differs from yours in that it has FX added on front, it only has two flash contacts. Instead of the KW in triangle on the top lid ,mine has an outline of the magnifyer with a vertical line. Mine also has a Tessar 2.8. lens with an L39 screw mount. Yet all the literature says that they have M42 screw mounts. The leather case also has the KW logo The Tessar is sharp and I have got good results with Fuji Acros 100 film. I think that my model is also 1952. Mine is also mint Happy shooting.

@roaringtree thanks for your kind words :) I tend to agree, these early model with their Praktiflex-inherited body but improved viewfinder - they look very cool - though of course TL on the other side should be much more "user-friendly" :)))

@lomodesbro thanks a lot for such a detailed description! Very interesting version! I myself don't dare to call myself a collector but I'm in touch with local collectors communities - and I'm pretty sure M39 mount is something outstanding on this model. Though on the other hand this information probably is the solution to certain puzzle - I definitely have seen 2 or 3 times Tessar's with M39 and "Flange focal distance" suitable for mirror camera, not rangefinder. I couldn't understand what camera they are for. So your report inserts this missing brick! The site www.praktica-collector.de/ which lists quite a number of models and variations seemingly lacks versions like yours yet!
