when i was starting, the film community made me believe that cine stocks are inferior, but i've been falling more and more in love with them lately

Love the warm honeyed skin tone. Would you say this film has finer or courser grain than Portra 400? Chroma noise is very well controlled.

@superultramike i’d honestly say they’re comparable grain and latitude wise. the grain on vision3 250d is noticeable but very soft and pleasant - and the same can be said for Portra. Tone-wise, though, Portra handles different lighting a lot better (e.g. cloudy weather, late afternoon etc) while 250d turns you into somewhat of a reverse vampire who is dependent on bright sunlight for the best colors and tones (at least in my humble experience)

@superultramike to add, I’ll still be using Portra 400 for ‘important’ portrait shoots or once-in-a-lifetime landscapes on trips because it’s just a lot more reliable and offers more shadow and highlight detail - but for more casual photography, 250d is becoming one of my favorite color stocks side-by-side with Pro Image 100

Reverse Vampire! Okay. I’ll consider the need for bright daylight when using it. And I see, since we’re analyzing, Portra would neutralize / moderate skin tones which this stock is not doing—not that I mind, I love wild colors with the appropriate model. I think the cinema stuff get graded in post in Resolve or something. (Lomo 800, my stock of choice, is not flattering to people with less than perfect skin and I had soooo much fun arguing with a model about it.) There’s a bunch of these cinema stocks I have’t tried; I would like to try Kodak Aerocolor too which has vivid saturation but excellent shadow information :-)

@superultramike here’s an example of a roll of 250d that i shot on an overcast day. some of these are surprisingly good, but others are less than desirable - it’s more unstable in cloudy weather, i’d say
