Camilla Gulí in Ibiza with the Lomo'Instant Automat South Beach

Camilla Gulì is a young Italian DJ and producer. Despite her 18 years, she has already played in several clubs both in Italy and abroad. In addition to her music jobs, Camilla works in the fashion world, both cooperating with several companies and following her personal projects.

She just came back from Ibiza, where she has brought with her the Lomo'Instant Automat to shoot some moments of her trip with several lively snapshots which perfectly transmit the spirit of the Spanish island.

Let's get to know better Camilla with this interview!

Welcome to Lomography, Camilla! Could you please tell introduce you and your work?

Hello! I am Camilla Gulì and I am an Italian DJ and producer. I've approached music for the first time attending piano lectures, since there I've always wanted to make music. I believe that made music become my job was a natural evolution of my passion. Since I was 15 years old I've started to organize private parties. Since I was taking care of the artistic part, I've started to be curious regarding the role of the DJ, until I tried to stay behind the console as well!

After six months of practicing, I discovered that the Holi Festival in Naples was being organized and I was able to be part of the official line-up. During that show, playing my music in front of 10.000 dancing guys, I realized that I was shaping my passion in a job.

What do you like most of your job and what is the biggest achievement you gained so far?

I love traveling and meet new people but mostly have fun and entertain people with my music. Have shared the stage with famous DJs, had the chance to play in wonderful locations and have been involved in unique projects by important companies are my greatest achievements. Among the last projects I was involved in, there was a collaboration with ASUS and Bob Sinclar at the Pacha in Ibiza for the launch of a new smartphone. I've found myself in such a historic venue for the electronic music sharing the stage with one of the most well-known DJs was an incredible experience.

Where do you find all the energies you need to follow all your projects

The desire to develop new projects, both in music and fashion, fosters my energy. Creativity is the most important part of my work, and this is what pushes me the most in facing my projects with the right mood.

What are you working on at the moment and what do you expect for the next future?

In addition to the projects I have with several bands, it's time for me to focus more on my music and release some new stuff on which I'm working on since a while.

Have you ever find difficult to work as DJ or producer, since you are a woman?

EDM music scene is mostly dominated by males, but for me working in this world is a wonderful experience for the time being. However, I believe there is a negative bias towards female DJs. If you just try to Google "female DJs" you can see mostly almost naked girls with a console. Honestly, I don't believe that this is related with music. I think my experience is positive because I am also a producer, thus approaching not only the console made me gain credibility also in the DJ's world.

What was your first impression of the Lomo'Instant Automat?

Well, since I was almost born and raised in the digital era, I've never tried instant cameras before. Hence, have the opportunity to use the Lomo'Instant Automat was a truly new experience. Waiting for the development of the snaps was really exciting. I took the Lomo'Instant Automat with me in Ibiza where I shot both outside and inside and all the pictures I took were perfect since the first one!

These pictures were shot in Ibiza, how was the trip?

Ibiza is a world apart, music is pivotal and the organization of the island is perfect. The thing that fascinates me the most is the hippie lifestyle of the island, the festive spirit and the freedom that you can feel since you land in there. But the most charming thing are the two souls of the island; on one side you have the chaotic club life and on the other a more calm and relaxed perspective of the seaside. In fact, besides the nightlife, you have beautiful beaches on which you can recharge your batteries and enjoy an astonishing view, before running to the next party!
