Lomography's World Congress London 2007

7

The Lomographic Society was invited by the London Design Festival to present a decade’s worth of Lomographic magic in an extraordinary exhibition – what was to be the 7th Lomography World Congress. The LomoWorldWall, presented on Trafalgar Square in the centre of London, featured 100,000 images from artists, individuals and groups from all parts of the world – all this made it the biggest Lomographic project to date! The congress united Lomographers from London and the rest of the world.

The 7th Lomography World Congress:

Lomography’s 7th World Congress took place in London, England – and what better place for Lomography to have set up shop, than in the very heart of the city – Trafalgar Square! As well as the 100,000-Lomograph exhibition, there was a lot of things to keep the Lomo-Lovers busy – including workshops, city challenges and wild parties! The compelling programme also inspired participants to contribute their images to a growing part of the LomoWorldWall exhibition on Trafalgar Square. All images produced during the London Congress were judged by an expert jury and the submitted LomoWalls successively added to a growing part of the exhibition.

Under the patronage of the London Design Festival the Lomography World Congress 2007 lasted for one week and was packed with an enthralling 24/7 programme.

World Congress 2007 Highlights:

  • LomoWorldWall exhibition on Trafalgar Square consisting of more than 100,000 photos from thousands of Lomographers worldwide
  • Unveiling of the Diana+ as the official camera of the Lomography World Congress 2007
  • Lomography workshops at the Design Museum, Central Saint Martins College and the Photographer’s Gallery
  • City challenges leading through the utmost secret places of London
  • Workshops held by Edward Booth-Clibborn, Manu Luksch, Martin Reinhart, Alex Graham, Lora Power, Igor Bararon, Justin Quinnell and other LomoAllStars
  • Gerald Matt announcing the 95 Theses of Lomography
  • Hardcore parties every night with DJ’s Handsome Hank, Peter fröm Austria and G.Rizo

And last but not least, the Congress introduced a number of serious lectures, speeches and discussion forums on and off the issues of Lomography. The brains behind the tours and workshops were Lomography-affiliated experts and artists, doyens of the scene and individuals familiar with the city.
