Shooting in Overcast Weather

A glimpse of grey skies can discourage a photographer from going out for a shoot. It's time to change that perspective and look at the brighter side of overcast days! Here are a few points to consider when shooting in cloudy weather.

Celebrate the Muted Tones

Take a stroll with your camera on quiet mornings embraced by frost and fog. Moody, subdued tones can be appealing as well, evoking nostalgia and a sense of calm. Don't forget to use a high ISO film (preferably 400 ISO), so that you can shoot at all lighting conditions.

Pop a Flash of Color

Put your color gel filters to good use when it's dull and grey. Turn on your flash, slip in a color gel filter, and shoot your subject against the light for best results. No color gels on hand? Be on the lookout for light sources that can lend a warm glow to an otherwise lackluster scene.

Bask in Black & White

Switch off the color completely and make monochromatic memories. Let the shadows and highlight come into play and shoot timeless photographs in black & white. Bonus points when you're shooting with a camera that emits vignetting, just like a Diana F+.
