Daniele Bartoli: What's in Your Bag?

2

Revealing the contents of your bag is like revealing the deepest corners of your soul, one could argue. Nevertheless, we managed to convince Daniele Bartoli from Lomography’s Online Marketing Team to show us what gets him through the day.

Hi Daniele. Tell us, what’s in your bag?

I always have some stuff in my backpack that I don’t want to miss throughout the day: magazines, books, headphones, and my new baby — the Lomo’Instant Wide — as well as some instant film.

Looks like you’re an avid reader. What’s the book about?

Yes, kind of. I read when I have some free time or when I’m on my way to the office. I like to have a wide range of reading choices in my backpack. I always have a marketing and business magazine like Millionaire — they create really good content and write inspiring stories — and a music magazine like Rolling Stone — they do really nice interviews like the last one with Tarantino — with me.

I also have a book, a novel, with me to jump into a parallel world! It’s called “Siberian Education”, in Italian “Educazione Siberiana". It is a memoir about the criminal socialization of young people from a traditional Urka community, displaced to the small republic of Transnistria, between Moldova and Ukraine. There, rape and usury are absolutely prohibited; smuggling of drugs, theft and robbery are allowed if done against the state and rich people; murder is allowed if “legitimized” by a just cause. Moreover, the author Nicolai Lilin also writes about the complex symbolism of Siberian tattoos. That’s basically a long story cut short, it’s pretty interesting. But I still need to finish the book, I haven’t even read half of it!

Sounds very intriguing! What about your headphones? What music do you listen to?

These headphones were a recent gift from a good friend and they produce an amazing sound! My favorite band is Pink Floyd, followed by Dire Straits and Blur. But I usually listen to a wide range of genres from Rock and Reggae to Jazz. It really depends on my mood!

You’ve also got a Lomo’Instant Wide! What do you like about your instant camera?

I simply love the Lomo’Instant Wide. Right now, the Portobello Edition is my favorite in terms of color! What I like most about it is that you can take a bunch of different pictures thanks to its settings — something that’s not possible with any other instant camera in market! The features I love are the Bulb Mode to create light paintings and the remote control lens cap to take great group and party photos.

Amazing. Thanks for sharing this with us, Daniele.
