I recently took my vacation in the marche, which is a neat area in the middle of Italy. Very calm and decently close to the Adriatic sea and the port of Ancona. It has all the treats of the Italian landscape, having mountains and seaside alike. Sometimes I wonder why this country got so lucky with its nature? I was editing a film but it was very hot, so even in august we were looking for pleasant chances to cool down. We made only once to the seaside as the sun was already setting, which was only half the pleasure of course. But very nearby our house we knew about a secret lake. Lago di Fiastra!
The commune of Fiastra is inhabited by only 600 people and remote from larger cities like Macerata and Ancona. Lets say, there is almost nobody. The biggest attraction for us was of course the lake, which is nice and round, deep and cold. Surrounded by mountains and trees (watch out for voyeurs, we kind of saw some;) and with a stony beach.
The water is sweet and much more enjoyable then the sea. Hence noone is watching you (despite the just mentioned voyeurs;) you can do silly things with your various lomocams. The silence really is a treat and such a different touch than the overcrowded beaches of Rimini or Ancona. I have read that the place is a natural reservation and the trees and animals are especially protected. I reckon the best to find this special peace of earth is to get to Macerata somehow by bus or car and then to take a car or public transport to Fiastra. I reckon there are a lot of busses, at least I have seen them. And hence Fiastra is rather on the even ground and not on top of a mountain it shouldn’t be a problem reaching it.
