Panorama of the Frank Slide area, Alberta

In the 1980's, I went on a field trip which passed by the Frank Slide area in the Alberta Rockies. I came across these slides which show a panoramic view of the region approximately centred about where the landslide occurred. This catastrophe happened in 1903 with the slide partially burying the mining community of Frank which was host to about 600 people.

600 people and one lone survivor: a baby found on top of the rubble. Which isn't true, but that's the story my parents used to tell me when we'd drive through there. It's a really astounding thing to see. Terrifying. Really great memory. Thanks!

Not far from my hometown of Lethbridge. First time seeing it from this perspective. Amazing!
