Lomographer Martynas Katauskas, or more popular as @duffman in the community, impressive work centers mostly on people and their stories. Each of his portraits are not just a combination of good framing or lighting. It's the emotion he channels out of his subjects that truly make his work unforgettable.

Martynas aka @duffman

Welcome to the Lomography Magazine. Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hello my name is Martynas. I‘m 23 years old and currently living in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. After finishing high school, I've spent most of my time traveling and taking photographs. And I‘m actually still doing it. By the end of February, I will move to Berlin for a while to work a bit ,maybe do an internship and travel more until I start studying photography in fall 2018. Besides photography, skateboarding is my other passion and that‘s basically all I‘m interested in.

How did your interest with photography start?

Some of my friends back in 2011 were using Lomography cameras and I got really interested by the look of them and also how different the photos looked than usual digital images. For my 17th birthday I've got a Diana F+ and started to shoot and experiment a lot. From then on I wouldn't usually go out without my camera(s). Before that I was more into filming and making videos.

How would you define photography? What makes it worth pursuing?

Sorry but I do not exactly know how to define photography. I‘m in a away attracted to many different things and with my camera I find out what it is. It‘s a tool that helps me to appreciate, learn about, and understand the world better. I love the process.

It‘s a reason for me to be somewhere or to meet someone. Mostly I‘m inspired by how people look or by something special that they reflect to me, sometimes about myself. I also like to document my surroundings because everything is changing constantly.

The reason for me to pursue photography is to be out there in the moment and try to capture it. That I want to do full time.

What makes a good photograph?

When a beautiful light, useful composition, and the right moment come together and give you a certain feeling or meaning that's a good photograph.

Any advice that you’d like to give aspiring photographers?

Photograph a lot. Photograph what's interesting, inspiring and meaningful to you. Don‘t think about your future as a “photographer“. I‘m not sure it‘s an useful advice but it‘s sincere.
